Focus Question
  • Why is reflecting and improving on an experience important?
  • What does it allow us to do?
  • How do we reflect on what has just happened/what we have just done?
Call Out
  • Students call out anything they can think of related to 'WWW' and 'EBI'
  • Allocate 2 scribes to get information down on the whiteboard
  • Explain
    • WWW - means What Went Well
    • EBI - means Even Better If
WWW & EBI - Give It A Go
  • Focus Question
    • How would this help us to improve on something for the future?
    • How does this work in practice?
  • Draw a picture
    • Get a child to draw a simple picture on the board - e.g. a cat
    • Ask for 3 elements that are good about it
    • Ask for 1 element that could be improved
    • Place the 3 good elements under WWW and 1 improvement under EBI.
    • Explain to the students that they not only have to say what needs to be improved, but how it can be improved e.g. make it more realistic by colouring it in.
Computer Game analysis
  • Explain: Going to look at some classic computer games in order to practice using WWW and EBI.
    • The purpose of this activity is to look at ways in which to improve a piece of work - it is not just about playing the games!
    • Get children to go to: http://www.80smusiclyrics.com/games.shtml#null
    • Allow students time to play the games and find one they would like to review
  • Game Review
    • Students select a game to review
    • Play the 'Game' a few times making notes about the things that they enjoyed about the game and things that they did not enjoy.
    • Students to write WWW for the 'Game' - what went well
    • Students to write EBI for the 'Game' - even better if
      • Brainstorm ideas of how to improve the game
      • Remind students that they must suggest ways in which the game could be improved not just state what they did not like.
    • This process can then be repeated for more of the games, or if have more time you could use WWW and EBI on more up to date games or look at reviewing some websites like the BBC.
Extension/Homework
  • Students could imagine that they are working for a games magazine and write a review of the game and give it a rating out of 10, or as a percentage. There are loads of review websites for games on the internet, some are from players and others are from proper reviewers. You could use this one as an example: http://www.videogamereview.com/reviewscrx.aspx
Plenary
  • Why is reviewing our work important?
  • What would happen if we didn't aim to improve our work?
  • How does getting the opinion of others help us to improve the standard of our work?
  • Who can define what WWW and EBI is and what it is used for?
